Bucket List Birding PodWildebeest in Ngorongoro Crater

James Wolstencroft is an English naturalist who has lived many years in Tanzania and now lives in Spain.

He guides for Eagle Eye Tours and Wings.

We have been friends on Facebook for year. James reached out asking how COVID was affecting local economies that depend on eco-tourism in different places around the world. He has taken on himself to write up a report from various sources around the world. The problem was beautifully illustrated by James in the story he made up about the fictitious Glorious Mountain Forest Owl. After our conversations, I helped James connect with some Peruvian eco-tourism companies to visit Madre de Dios area in SE Peru.
The podcast was recorded on Oct 5, 2021, prior to his visit to Peru, and published on Jan 4, 2022, so some of the COVID situation has changed. Omicron was unheard of and the UK has now dropped the Red List.
Peru was up graded to Level 2 in the US, but has again been downgraded to Level 3.
People still seem very careful about traveling and ecotourism has not taken off in spite that the world has opened up.
Peru did not get a third wave from Delta, and Omicron is still kept at bay although the positivity in the testing has come up in the recent week.
